MLT Sandwich (Marbles, Lettuce, Tomato)
WITH SMOKY MEATY MEAT
Part of our BACK2WERK recipe series: posh-yet-portable ‘sack lunches’ for adults. Kicking it off is a marbleized version of an all-time lunch classic. THE BLT. Now: BMT. This perfectly balanced ménage à trois of fresh greens, juicy toms, and salty strips of meat differs from the original in a few key ways. 1. BBQ sauce, because we like our sandwiches on their worst behavior. 2. We swapped thin-sliced ‘bacon’ for chunkier strips of Meaty Meat: Pork-ish. 3. Is actually the same: Mayonnaise. Because… mayonnaise. This sandwich is said to heal all corporate sorrows in just three big bites. Though, results may vary, depending on the severity of your inbox.

preparation
Smoky Marbles
- Sliced Meaty Meat into 1 cm/ 0.4 inch thick slices.
- Brush with BBQ sauce from all sides. Optionally, let it marinate in the fridge for a few hours.
- Heat oil in a non-stick pan over medium heat, and add Meaty Meat slices. Cook for 3-4 minutes on each side, and remove from the heat.
MLT
- Built the sandwich by spreading 1 tbsp of mayo on each piece of bread. Add a lettuce leaf, half of the Meaty Meat slices, 2-3 tomato slices, and another lettuce leaf (to prevent the bread from going soggy).
- Repeat to build the second sandwich.
- Enjoy the sandwich as is, or toast it in a panini press, airfryer or the pan with some plant-based butter.
